The Silk Blend
A Natural Foundation
Silk and cotton - two of nature’s oldest fibres, spun and woven for centuries into garments that comfort, protect and endure. For Petitcocon, they are more than just beautiful raw materials. They are the soul of our work.
There are many reasons why we chose silk as the foundation of our signature fabric. Some of them are personal. Our founder comes from a family with deep roots in silk production. But beyond heritage, we are drawn to silk because of what it offers. It breathes. It regulates temperature. It offers a natural softness and quiet elegance. When paired with cotton, silk enhances the comfort and utility of the final material.
Yet despite its qualities, silk remains rare in everyday children’s products. It is seen as fragile, expensive, and difficult to process. In an industry where most brands do not control their fabrics, silk is often left out entirely. Materials are typically supplied off-the-shelf, shared between multiple brands, and rarely questioned. We wanted to change that.
Creating Something Different
At Petitcocon, we chose to go upstream. We didn’t want to rely on what the industry offered. Instead, we set out to create our own fabric — one that starts from the fibre, not from the shelf.
Blending silk and cotton is far from straightforward. Their physical behaviours differ in almost every aspect: shrinkage, moisture absorption, elasticity, tension. We spent years developing a solution. Prototypes were tested and rejected. We adjusted yarn structures, played with weave tightness, and refined finishing techniques. Eventually, we found the balance. A fabric that breathes like cotton, caresses like silk, and holds its form through daily use.
This is now our signature blend - one made not for novelty, but for performance and beauty combined.
Innovation in Progress
Our work didn’t stop once we had a working formula. In fact, that was just the beginning. Today, we continue to develop the next generation of this fabric.
By embedding bamboo charcoal and graphene into the fibre matrix, we are introducing natural antibacterial properties, moisture and temperature regulation, anti-static behaviour, and enhanced softness through a sericin finishing process. These functional improvements are grounded in material science, and designed to support real-world use - especially for sensitive baby skin.
The formulation is now protected under a pending patent. This recognition is technical, but the intention behind it is simple: to protect what we built, and to keep improving it.
More Than Just Fabric
To us, fabric is not just something we buy, it’s something we build. It carries our values before it carries any design. It reflects care, precision, and belief in doing things the long way when it leads to something better.
