The Fabric Behind Petitcocon

We Didn’t Want to Compromise

When we started Petitcocon, we weren’t looking for a fabric to choose. We were looking for a truth to stand by.

From day one, we knew we wanted to work with truly natural materials - not just those labelled as such. But as we began sourcing and studying, we found that many fabrics carried more marketing than meaning. Some were derived from wood pulp and solvents, others wrapped in vague eco-labels. They looked soft, but felt dishonest.

We didn’t want to offer softness at the surface. We wanted depth - something natural in fibre and intention. And so, we chose not to adapt.

So We Made Our Own

Our goal was simple: to create a fabric that felt as honest as the materials inside it. But working with two very different natural fibres - silk and cotton - turned out to be far from simple.

Their shrinkage rates didn’t match. Their moisture retention behaved differently under testing. Cotton pulled; silk slackened. Some samples curled at the edges. Others puckered under stitching. There were batches that felt right in hand, but creased too harshly after washing. A few came out flat and dull. More than once, we thought we had it - until we didn’t.

We tested different weaving densities, yarn finishes, post-treatment methods and enzyme washes. For every success, there was a near miss. But eventually, we found balance.

The result is a muslin that holds its shape, breathes with the body, and softens beautifully over time - without compromising structure or practicality.

Even now, we’re still refining. And because we believe this fabric is genuinely original, we’ve filed for a patent - not as a marketing badge, but to protect the integrity of what we’ve built.

Made to Be Gentle, Chosen to Last

We didn’t create this fabric as a novelty. We created it because no baby should be wrapped in half-truths.

Our blend combines natural cotton and silk - two fibres that each bring something essential. Cotton offers breathability and structure. Silk provides softness, temperature regulation, and that quiet elegance you can’t fake.

The result is a fabric that holds up in daily life - wash after wash - while remaining kind to delicate skin.

What Makes It Ours

This isn’t a fabric we found in a catalogue. It’s one we developed from the thread up.

Every fibre has been considered. Every finish tested. Every compromise faced head-on. This isn’t about trend or luxury - it’s about making something we trust enough to put on our own children.

You may see the word “muslin” on our labels, but it’s not like any muslin you’ve met before. And that’s intentional.

The Fabric That Began It All

This fabric isn’t just part of Petitcocon - it is Petitcocon.

Before our packaging, before our designs, before our name, there was this question:

What touches the skin of a newborn should be more than soft. It should be right.

That question became our material. That material became our brand.
